"Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." - Psalms 2:8 Everyone has hopes, dreams, desires, and goals. The world continually tries to fill our hearts with its concepts of what we should seek after, strive for, and live for. It may be money, pleasure, prestige, convenience, leisure, the esteem of others... the list is long indeed. But the Word of God teaches us that putting our thoughts and energy into worldly pursuits such as these is vain, for they are fleeting and have no lasting reward. We may labor long years for earthly treasures, only to find that they don't glitter nearly so brightly in our hands as they did to our eyes from afar. No sooner do we lay hold on them than they quickly fade or are taken away from us. |
Jesus commanded us:
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." – Matthew 6:19-21
Eternal treasure is that which will never lose its shine. It is reserved for us in heaven where it cannot be taken away.
"Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." - Psalms 37:4-5
James writes, "Ye have not because ye ask not." He also warned us, though, not to ask amiss for selfish desires. Rather than being content with temporary earthly goals, we are called to seek and to strive to the uttermost for those things which glorify the Lord by bearing fruit which lasts forever in eternity.
Take a moment right now to reflect on what you are asking from the Lord. Are you asking at all? When you do, is it for those things which are eternal? What are you doing right now to fulfill your desire for eternal rewards?

To the Uttermost in Africa
Pastor Calvince Osongo, the founder and leader of ICII's partner ministry in Kenya, has had just such an eternal desire on his heart for years. As he and his Gospel team travel not only remote Kenyan villages but into parts of Uganda and Tanzania as well, his vision for reaching the unreached in these areas is only getting clearer and stronger. He shared with us that his goal is to reach 100,000 people in these three nations with the Gospel.
Scattered all throughout the hills and valleys of the rough bush country in eastern Africa are huts and tiny villages, home to multitudes of people without access to the Gospel. These are truly some of the uttermost parts of the earth. One of the biggest obstacles our team faces in their mission is that there are few roads in these regions. Those that are there are often no more than rocky dirt trails with steep slopes and deep potholes that fill up with sticky mud during the frequent rains. Aside from a few small motorbikes, the team's only vehicle right now is their little Toyota hatchback. It can't begin to negotiate this kind of rugged terrain.

Our team has been doing their best to reach such areas on foot for years, but that kind of evangelism is slow, grueling, and dangerous. A vehicle that can carry a team and supplies for long distances over rough terrain will vastly multiply the number of lost souls that our Kenyan missionaries can reach with the good news of Jesus Christ.
Lots of people want to have a vehicle like this for their own recreation or personal convenience. For Pastor Calvince, the true longing in his heart is to travel deep into the unreached bush of East Africa on rocky and muddy trails to bring the glorious Gospel to the unreached residents. To fulfill this desire, a four-wheel-drive is a true necessity, one that will bear eternal fruit.
ICII wants to help Pastor Calvince carry out the vision that God has laid on his heart. We have started a project to raise funds for a four-wheel-drive for the Kenyan team. He will need a very reliable one that can be driven on both the paved roads and in the bush. It must be in good mechanical condition, since they will be taking it for considerable distances, even into other African nations. Such vehicles are in high demand in Africa, making good ones scarce and expensive.
Although a vehicle like this requires a significant investment, we believe that the true value of what is eternal can't really be compared with the earthly, and that obeying our Lord's command is always worth the cost. Please ask the Lord what you can do to make this jeep possible for the ministry team in Kenya.

How To Help:
Pastor Calvince and his team in Kenya needs a late-model Jeep or Land Rover in good mechanical condition. In Kenya, these currently cost about $35,000. We would like to raise the funds needed to help the team purchase a good reliable one suitable for the needs of the ministry.
We still need about $22,650 toward this project. Gifts of any amount would be very greatly appreciated. If you would like to help, you may contribute through PayPal using this link:
