Joy's Story:

When Pastor Calvince found a starving and desperate little girl named Joy Akinyi wandering by herself, he could not help but bring her to his home as well, to do what he could for her. Joy is only eight years old. When both of her parents died of AIDS, she became homeless. Living out on the streets, she often had to go hungry for days between meals. Malnourished, unwashed, and covered with sores, she was suffering alone with no one to help her. Pastor Calvince and his wife Nancy shared his family’s food with Joy, managed to obtain a clean dress for her, and took her to the hospital for testing and treatment for her sores. When the test was done, he received the heartbreaking results: Little Joy had tested positive for HIV. Joy will need monthly check-ups and medicine to keep her more comfortable and so that she can enjoy and experience life like a normal child. Joy now lives with Pastor Calvince family and other orphans that he has taken into his home. This home is called Freedom and Truth Orphanage.

A letter from Joy to her Sponsor:

Greetings to my Dear Dad,
I am happy to write for you this letter and I am hoping it finds you well. I am also doing fine and alive. I give thanks to God for he has been good to me. It is my joy to write to you to tell you how I am doing. I am still going to school and I love it so much for it’s a chance that God gave to me. I am also taking my medicine as the doctor told me. For that reason my health is doing good and better than before. My friends both in school and at home love me and I play together and compete with them in different things.  I am so much happy to be your child. Because of you I enjoy life both in school and at home and at church. I am learning a lot in my Sunday classes and my Sunday school teacher is so happy and nice to me. Otherwise thanks so much for everything, may God bless you. I miss you.
I love you!
