Fish Farming in Kenya
Fish Ponds Provide for Orphans, Widows and the Poor in Kenya! Through the love and generosity of ICII supporters, last year Pastor Calvince and his ministry team in Kenya were able to make four more fish ponds. ICII has helped our ministry partners in Kenya establish six fish ponds so far. The fish ponds have helped to sustain ICII’s ministry in Kenya and provide many needs for the many orphans that ICII’s missionaries have taken into their homes. Some of these children are infected with HIV and medicine must be provided. These fish ponds are supplying many needs that could not have been met before. Just recently, one of the youth leaders took charge of the fish harvest and was able to sell nearly 1,400 fish that they harvested from two fish ponds, with an income of over $1,100. These funds were then distributed to the missionaries in Kenya who have orphans living with them to help with food, clothing and other basic needs. Some of the funds were used to get fish food for the other ponds and to reconstruct them. Each pond will normally have an annual income of around $1,000. Without these ponds, it would be impossible for the missionaries to take care of these orphans in their homes. The ponds have been providing fish each week as a source of food for the orphans, widows and poor people under the ministry, and helping to fund evangelism outreaches as well. In April, Pastor Calvince and his ministry team used some of the income from the ponds to sponsor a three day mission trip. This trip was to travel by boat to an island in Lake Victoria, bordering Uganda. Pastor Calvince reported: “It's a very immoral island where people don't want to hear about Jesus. But since I came here God led me to reach 71 men, women, and youth with His message and 49 souls accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior! It's a great joy to see how these people have come to the Lord with tears. Also, miraculously, the head of the local authority there who has been punishing and arresting Christians in that island received Christ!”
The team in Kenya is very grateful for these ponds and are praying for more ponds in the future to help sustain and provide for the ministry.
